Sewer Scope Inspections in Des Moines & Surrounding Areas

See what’s really happening underground—before it ruins your day.

If you’ve had backups, slow drains, gurgling toilets, or weird sewer smells, your home is trying to tell you something.

At Titan Home Inspections, we use sewer cameras to look inside your main sewer line so you’re not guessing. Whether you’ve lived in the home for years, just started having issues, or you’re thinking about buying/selling, a sewer scope gives you real answers, not assumptions.

We offer standalone sewer scopes for current homeowners and add-on scopes with home inspections and real estate transactions.

What Is a Sewer Scope?

A sewer scope is a video inspection of your home’s main sewer line using a specialized camera.

We insert the camera through an accessible clean-out or drain and inspect the pipe from the house toward the street connection (when accessible), watching the live video feed as we go.

We’re looking for:

  • Root intrusion

  • Cracks, breaks, and offsets

  • Low spots or “bellies” that hold water

  • Collapsed or deteriorated pipe sections

  • Evidence of past or current blockages

You get clear visuals and a written summary so you know what’s really going on underground.

Sewer Scopes for Current Homeowners

Signs You Should Consider a Sewer Scope

You’re a great candidate for a sewer scope if:

  • Your drains are slow, gurgling, or backing up

  • You’ve had the line snaked more than once

  • You notice sewer odors inside or outside near the line

  • You’ve had heavy tree roots removed before

  • A plumber recommended “digging it up” but you want proof first

  • You’re planning a bathroom remodel, basement finish, or adding fixtures and want to know the line can handle it

Save Money

Avoid throwing money at repeated snaking if the pipe is cracked, broken, or bellied

Sewer Scopes for Buyers, Sellers, and Investors

Sewer scopes are also a smart move in real estate and investment situations:

You should strongly consider a sewer scope if:

  • The home is older (often 30+ years, especially 1950s–1980s)

  • There are large trees near where the sewer line likely runs

  • The home has a history of backups, slow drains, or frequent snaking

  • You’re buying a rental, flip, or investment property

  • The sewer material is clay, cast iron, or unknown

  • For buyers and investors, a sewer scope can:

  • Reveal problems before closing

  • Provide documentation for repairs or credits

  • Protect rental cash flow by avoiding surprise sewer emergencies

Who Might Not Need a Sewer Scope?

You might decide to skip a sewer scope if:

  • The home is very new construction with documented PVC sewer installation

  • There’s solid documentation of a recent full sewer line replacement by a reputable contractor

  • You fully accept the risk of the unknown and have the budget to handle issues if they appear later

Even then, some homeowners and buyers still choose a scope for peace of mind—we’ll always be honest and let you decide.

What to Expect from a Titan Sewer Scope

Here’s how our sewer scope process works for both homeowners and buyers:

1. Access & Setup

We locate an appropriate clean-out or drain and prepare the camera equipment.

2. Camera Inspection

We advance the camera through the line, watching real-time video and noting any defects, obstructions, or abnormal conditions.

3. Document Findings

We capture photos and/or video clips of concerns and note approximate locations and distances when possible.

4. Explain Results in Plain English

We walk you through what we saw:

  • “Looks good”

  • “Monitor and budget”

  • “Recommend repair/replacement or further evaluation”

5. Written Summary

You receive a clear, written overview of our findings that you can share with:

  • Plumbers or sewer contractors

  • Buyers/sellers or agents

  • Your own records and planning
